EMERGENCY HELP

The patient should be prepared for any kind of emergency in asthma. Medical help should be seeked immediately if the patient :

  • Is at a high risk for a life endangering asthma.
  • Is experiencing a severe attack e.g. PEF (Peak Expiratory Flow) less than 50% of personal best).
  • Does not improve within two to six hours after giving corticosteroid treatment.
  • Does not respond promptly to the bronchodilator.
  • Has trouble walking or talking.
  • Lips or fingernails become gray or blue.
