INTRODUCTION

Bronchial asthma (Tamak shwas)  is a disorder of the respiratory passage (Pranvaha srotas) that carry respiratory gases-mainly oxygen (Pran Vayu). [Su.U.51]

Tamak Shwas is characterized by obstruction in the respiratory passage disturbing the normal flow of Pran vayu leading to difficulty in breathing out (shwas kashta). Tamak shwas is an amashay samudhbhav disorder which means a disorder originating from the stomach.

The disease is caused predominantly due to an imbalance in Kapha dosha although an imbalance in Pran dosha is also involved. [Su. U. Tan.51]
