ThankGod Ispaghula Husk™

|
| Product Name |
ThankGod Ispaghula Husk™ |
| Composition |
Pure whole Ispaghula husk (Plantago
ovata seed husk) |
| Introduction |
Ispaghula husk (also known as Psyllium husk) is a
well known, safe, natural, non-habit forming, effective
bulk forming laxative (agent that facilitates bowel
evacuation). Traditionally, Ispaghula seeds have been used
in catarrh, chronic dysentery, intestinal fluxes,
diarrhea, affections of bladder, urethra and kidneys,
inflammatory and functional derangements of digestive
organs and febrile conditions.
|
| Pharmacology |
ThankGod Ispaghula Husk™ contains a gel forming natural
hydrophilic colloidal mucilage (parent substances
arabinoxylans), which absorbs water and increases the bulk
of stool resulting in easy and comfortable evacuation. |
| Actions |
Ispaghula has abundance of
mucins (which has swelling properties) responsible for its
laxative and anti-diarrheal effects. Other prominent
effects include reduction in blood glucose level after
meals (postprandial), serum cholesterol levels and
decrease in gallstone formation.
|
|
- Laxative effect: Ispaghula, by increasing stool water content, softens
the stool. Besides, it also decreases the passage time
of bowel content by increasing the volume of stool,
thus exerting a significant beneficial effect in
constipation.
-
Anti diabetic effects: Significant improvement
has been observed in the form of decreased fasting and
postprandial (after meals) blood glucose levels in
Type 2 diabetes patients taking Psyllium.
-
Cholesterol lowering
effect: Ispaghula lowers cholesterol levels by
increasing excretion of cholesterol and bile acids in
stool. Thus, it reduces cholesterol levels indirectly.
Reduction of bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) and
total cholesterol has been observed in many studies.
Some studies have also shown decrease in triglyceride
levels.
-
Effect on Gallstone formation: Ispaghula has bile
acid sequestration properties. It reduces biliary
cholesterol, chenodeoxycholic acid (major culprits for
gall stone formation) and thus effectively protecting
against cholesterol gallstone formation.
-
Weight reduction: Ispaghula decreases fat intake, accentuate subjective
feeling of satiety and thus may contribute to weight
reduction.
-
Irritable Bowel Syndrome/Ulcerative Colitis: The
common problems in irritable bowel syndrome such as
stool frequency & consistency, abdominal distension
and constipation improve well after the use of
Psyllium seeds.
