• Alphacalcidol: Alphacalcidol is a vitamin D analogue. Alphadol acts by increasing intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, enhanced bone mineralization and increased osteoblastic activity to promote bone formation. Concomitant use of Zinc is known to enhance vitamin D activity. In fact, women with higher zinc intake have been shown to have greater mineral content in the bones of forearm. The usual daily dose of alphacalcidol in treatment of osteoporosis is 0.5 – 1 mcg/day.
