• Calcitriol: Calcitriol stimulates intestinal absorption of calcium and accounts for supplementing calcium levels in management of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Calcitriol also tends to increase osteocalcin production by osteoblasts and thus has been considered to stimulate bone formation. It has been shown to reduce the rate of vertebral fractures in post-menopausal women with established osteoporosis. Concomitant use of supplemental calcium helps in achieving maximum effect of Calcitriol.
