ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS – RISK FACTORS
- Genetic factors predisposes the disease; it is thought to be inherited as an autosomal dominant trait associated with thepresence of HLA B 27 gene; but it alone is not responsible.
- Age : More common in early adulthood (before 40 years), although young males may have symptoms in adolescent or occasionally in childhood.
- Sex : It is three times more common in males. In females joints away from the spine are more frequently affected.
