Similar Conditions

  • Bronchial asthmacan mimic COPD, the differentiating points being that asthmatics mostly cough / get breathless at night or early morning and the episodes are usually related to seasonal changes. Family history of breathlessness and wheezing is usually present in asthmatics.
  • Bronchiectasis: The patients with this disease, cough and produce large amount of sputum (phlegm), when lying on a particular side and have repeated episodes of lung infection.
  • Cystic fibrosis: usually occurs in childhood or early adult life. A family history may also be present.
