The patient of COPD usually presents with :

  • Daily early morning cough and phlegm (sputum) production initially during the winter months and later throughout the year.
  • Breathlessness and wheeze (whistling sounds heard on exhalation).
  • Increasing breathlessness on exertion.
  • This breathlessness tends to be progressive in nature.
  • Feeling of chest tightness.
  • Fatigue

Late stages – the patient is prone to repeated episodes of lung infections and heart failure
