WHAT TYPE OF OXYGEN SYSTEM ARE AVAILABLE
The three main systems available are
Concentrators : These are more commonly used because they are convenient to the patient. Concentrators are plugged into an electrical outlet and it takes oxygen from room air. But in areas where there are frequent power cuts a back up system will be required. Also this is not suitable for patients who are involved in active work.
- Compressed gas systems : These are available as steel or aluminum cylinder tanks, which contain oxygen gas and are available in portable size also.
- Liquid systems have a large stationery part and a portable unit.
The oxygen from these systems can be delivered to the body through a cannula (a small plastic tube), a face mask or oxygen tent.
