Kaphaj Kas can be correlated with Chronic bronchitis due to the similarity in symptoms. Kaphaj Kas is characterized by productive cough. Similarly Chronic Bronchitis is defined as “coughing of sputum for at least three months in a year for at least two consecutive years.

In Ayurveda Kas has not been dealt just as a symptom but also as a disease. It was believed that Kas (cough) was the primary complaint in some diseases but eventually it led to other symptoms if left untreated and finally progressed to a disease. Problems that can arise due to  untreated Kas (cough) are difficulty in  breathing (dyspnea), vomiting, hoarseness of voice. This could be an indication that the basic pathology that led to Cough might have exaggerated.
