Coronary heart disease is one of the largest public health problems. There are approximately 2 million cases of angina pectoris reported in the United Kingdom. In United States, approximately 6 million people are suffering from angina.
In India, coronary heart disease occurs at least 10 years earlier as compared to the developed countries. In urban areas of India (like Chandigarh), the prevalence has been found to be 65.4 and 47.8 per 1000 males and females respectively. Whereas in villages the prevalence of coronary heart disease is considerably lower.
