- In Ayurveda Dandruff has been referred to as Darunak.
- This condition is characterized by the formation of dry, white or grayish flakes on the scalp that may fall over shoulders.
- Disturbed Vata and Kapha dosha may result in a rough, hard, dry and itchy skin on the scalp, a condition referred to as ‘darunak‘(derived from a sanskrit term ‘Daruna’ which denotes hardness).
- AggraVataed Kapha dosha, presence of infectious agents in the blood may lead to small eruptions on the scalp with oozingdischarge, which is known as Arunshika. The symptoms of Arunshika show resemblance to the symptoms of seborrhoeic dermatitis.
Hormonal changes, hereditary predisposition, diet, constipation and sedentary occupations may play a role in causation of dandruff.
