Homeopathic Approach

Home/Depression/Homeopathic Approach

According to the homeopathic philosophy, it is the diseased individual (patient), who has to be cured and not only the disease. So, while treating a person through homeopathy, more importance is given to the individuality of a person rather than labeling them with the pathological conditions or category like “bipolar depression or unipolar depression”, as stated in the modern psychiatry. But this does not mean that the disease and their pathology is not considered. Knowledge of disease holds the most important key for selecting a homeopathic remedy for a person, as it helps in differentiating between disease symptoms and the persons symptom. So, before treating a depressed person, knowledge about depression is essential.

Depression is like a robber who robs its victims of their purpose of life, general health, mental peace, their family relationships, friends, professional potentials, and sometimes even the precious gift, life itself. Now, to restore health, a homeopathic physician acts as an investigator, who searches for clues and evidence not only to catch the robber but also build up a protection device for keeping the robber away, hence the cause and the ailment has to be removed for making the victim free from depression.

What are the steps taken while treating a depressed individual?

Case taking

Locating the Cause

  • As being an efficient investigator, the first step is to search for the cause. The cause can be physiological, pathological or any circumstance. The search begins from where the problem initiated or to say the crime scene.
  • The initiating cause forms an outer layer over the original personality of a person, which keeps on adding and multiple folds appear as the time passes. This disturbs the harmonious flow of the inner self, making the person more depressed. In order to restore health, it becomes important to locate the cause and remove all the coverings.
  • If depression is manifestation of any medical disorder, then first the pathological cause has to be treated and the person will start feeling better.
  • Once the cause is known, the understanding of the ailment becomes much better and by deciphering the personality of the individual, the selection of the medicine becomes easier.

Individualizing a person

Every person has a personality of his own, which makes him different from the other, in other words the person stands as an individual having his own emotional and physical characteristic. Under a similar situation each person feels and reacts in a different manner for example:

“In a business loss, several people may go in depression. One of them might present his depression with irritability, he gets angry even on small matters, is restless, thirsty all the time and has a fear about his future, where as another person might have emotional and physical pain along with loss of self-esteem, feeling of worthlessness and loneliness and may try to end his life. Still another may have feeling of guilt along with delusions of having two souls, one contradicting the other.”

In this case, each person has the same problem “Depression”, even the cause is similar but each has a different presentation and response to the symptoms. Hence, the remedy for each one of them has to be different. So, while selecting a homeopathic medicine, each person is considered and analyzed separately.
