A doctor must be seen in any of the following circumstances :

  • Diarrhea lasting for more than 3 days.
  • Stools having rice water appearance (loose watery stool).
  • Fever of 102° F or more.
  • Blood or mucus in stools or black tarry stools.
  • Severe pain in abdomen.
  • When signs of dehydration are present.
  • Frequent vomiting making it impossible to take anything by mouth.
  • Irritability or apathy in a child.
  • If the patient is a child less than 6 months old.

Diarrhea in a pregnant woman.
