  • Rare but most serious.
  • Food most frequently responsible are home preserved foods e.g. home canned vegetables, pickles, home made cheese and similar foods.
  • Food Poisoning due to Clostridium botulinum (Botulism) is manifested as weakness and paralysis of limbs and respiratory muscles between 18-36 hours of consuming contaminated food.
  • Other symptoms are
    • blurring of vision
    • drooping of eye lids
    • difficulty of speech
    • generalized weakness
  • Death is frequent.
