  • These bacteria are ubiquitous in nature and occur on the skin, nose and throat of man and animals. They are common agents of boils and conditions with pus formation.
  • The foods which get contaminated mostly are salads, custard, milk and milk products.
  • These bacteria grow in the food and produce a poisonous substance called toxin which is not easily destroyed by heating. This toxin acts both on the intestines and the brain.
  • Symptoms of food poisoning appear within 6 – 8 hours of consumption of contaminated food.
  • Patient suffers from sudden onset of vomiting, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Fever is mostly absent
