Oral rehydration solution (Composition and recipe)

Glucose (g/100 mL) 2
Sodium (mEq/L) 90 (sodium chloride 3.5 g/l-a little less than one teaspoon)
Potassium (mEq/L) 20 (potassium chloride 1.5 g/l)
Chloride (mEq/L) 80
Bicarbonate (mEq/L) 30 (sodium bicarbonate 2.5 g/l- half a teaspoon)
Osmolarity (mOsm/L) 330

Recipe

  • To 1L of water add the following
    • 3.5 g sodium chloride (salt)
    • 2.5 g sodium bicarbonate
    • 1.5 g potassium chloride
    • 20 g glucose

The solution should be made up fresh every 24 hours.
