If diarrhea is not managed and treated timely it may lead to following:

  • Dehydration
  • Disturbance in electrolytes (like sodium, potassium) balance due to loss of electrolytes or improper intake of fluids containing electrolytes leading to low blood sodium and potassium.
  • Low blood sugar level, especially in weak children whose food intake is insufficient which can cause loss of consciousness.
  • Convulsions or fits especially in children having high fever.
  • Malnutrition or undernourished.
