First Aid Kit and Equipment

A good first aid kit includes all the essential material required until proper medical help can be provided to the casualty.

First aid kit must always be stored in a dry atmosphere and should be replenished regularly.

A first aid kit must include the following materials: (Items in bold must be there)

Bandages and Dressings

  • Butterfly bandages
  • Triangular bandages
  • 1 inch, 2 inch, 4 inch, 6 inch gauze roller bandages
  • Crepe bandages
  • Absorbent cotton
  • Gauze pad (4 inch and 2 inch)
  • Eye pad
  • Sterile medicated dressing
  • Adhesive strips
  • Rolled waterproof adhesive tape

Splinting and sling material

  • Cravat cloth (triangular bandage)
  • Elastic wrap
  • Splints
  • Aluminium finger splints

Equipment

  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Tourniquets
  • Splinter forceps
  • Folding knife
  • Safety razor
  • Disposable scalpel
  • Disposable instant ice bags
