NUTRITIONAL MANAGEMENT

Diet for hypertension : Dietary changes may help control high blood pressure. Some important guidelines are :

  • Avoid high intake of salt.
  • Eat a low fat diet.
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as they are rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium and protein, and low in fat.
  • Avoid over eating.
  • Avoid alcohol and coffee. Take tea in moderate amounts.
  • Avoid cigarettes and use of tobacco.
  • Prevent and treat obesity.
  • Plan your diet and calorie requirement with the help of a nutritionist.
