CHICKEN POX VACCINE – DOSAGE & SCHEDULE
The vaccine can be given only after 1 year of age.
- More than 1 Year: Single Dose 0.5 ml subcutaneous (SC) on outer aspect of upper arm
- More than 12 Years: 2 doses are given 4 – 8 weeks apart
Most Pediatricians strongly recommend the vaccine actively by 10 years if no history of chicken pox & not received vaccine earlier. This would prevent more severe forms of disease, which occur in adolescents and adults. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) has made no definite recommendation regarding its administration and its use is ‘optional’ based on the preference of the family and their doctor.
