  • less than 2 years: Only the killed vaccine is approved for use. The Monovalent vaccine is marginally superior to the Vi vaccine and is cheaper but has more side effects.
  • Between 2 & 6 years:  Either killed or the Polysaccharide Vi Antigen vaccine can be used. Typhoid Vaccine is usually administered around 3 years of age.
  • more than 6 years: All the three vaccines can be used. The Oral Typhoid Vaccine can only be given above 6 years. It has the convenience of oral administration but the cold chain has to be maintained strictly. It is a Live vaccine and hence, contraindicated in Immunodeficiency
