Tridosha Theory – Kapha Dosha
Kapha word has been derived from a Sanskrit word that means “that which holds things together”. It is known as “Shleshma”.
The Dosha which is formed from water and earth is known as Kapha.Together, these two elements form the fundamental protoplasm of life. It is the force which provides structure to everything from an individual atom or cell to the whole body frame.
Kapha Dosha literally means the adhesive material which in the body acts as the binding constituent. It gives strength, stability, and endurance–both physical and psychological–and promotes human emotions and capacities such as love, compassion, empathy, understanding, forgiveness, loyalty and patience. It lubricates the joints, responsible for moisture, memory retention and energy. It is responsible for the immunity and resistance against disease. Water is the main constituent of Kapha, and this body fluid is responsible physiologically for biological strength and natural tissue resistance in the body. The repair or anabolic process taking place in the body is managed by Kapha dosha. It provides structure to an individual atom or cell to the body as a whole. Kapha cements the elements in the body, providing the material for physical structure. Kapha is present in the chest, throat, head, sinuses, nose, mouth, stomach, joints, cytoplasm, plasma and liquid secretions of the body such as mucus. The chest is the seat of Kapha.
