What seemed to be an impossibility may not be so for long! Scientists and researchers are now working on developing ‘Artificial Pancreas’, an implantable feedback control system, which regulates the minute by minute delivery of insulin in response to changing blood glucose levels. It has got three components: an insulin pump, blood glucose sensor and a control system. Recent studies have demonstrated that, it may prove to be useful for satisfactory blood glucose control in diabetes patients. With recent refinement in insulin pumps, glucose sensors and control systems, near perfect glycemic control might become possible soon.
