A diet consisting of several food groups provide all the required nutrients in proper amounts is termwd as balanced diet.Composition of balanced diet is the end result of the Recommended daily allowances (RDAs).


As soon as child completes second year of life his diet can be similar to that of the family. Throughout childhood and adolescence, it is important that daily meals should include variety of foods. The principles of the Food Guide Pyramid apply to a child’s diet as well as adults, although portions and number of servings per day are obviously less for children.


After the age of two, it is recommended that diet should  be moderately low in fat. Diets high in fat may contribute to heart diseases, obesity, and other health problems later in life.
