  • Take 40 fresh leaves of kali tulsi (holy basil) and crush them to form a thick paste and add them to fresh sweet curd. Take this at early morning on an empty stomach. Quantity of curd varies from 50-300 grams as per the requirements (based on age, season and physical endurance)
  • In the early stages of cancer if 20 crushed leaves of tulsi are swallowed with water, it gives relief to the person (never chew tulsi (holy basil) leaves because it is known to contain mercury which is detrimental to teeth and can cause  toothache).


  • Mix onion juice (10 ml), pure honey (10 ml) and camphor (2 grams). Put this mixture in a glass bottle and use it as eye drops before retiring to bed.
  • In the initial stages of cataract you can use pure honey daily early in the morning.
  • Apply a drop of pure castor oil in your eyes before retiring to bed.
  • Boil 1 teaspoon triphala in a cup of water for 2-3 minutes. Allow it to cool and strain it with a muslin cloth and wash your eyes with it.


  • Massage the affected area with sesame oil and mustard oil in equal proportions.

Chest congestion

  • Boil 25 gm crushed flax seeds or linseeds in 375 ml water till it becomes one third. Now mash it  properly and sieve through strainer. Add 12 grams of mishri in this mixture. Take this decoction 1 teaspoon frequently at an interval of one hour.
  • Grate a piece of horse radish, add little lime juice, a pinch of salt and sugar. Stir, and swallow it. The pungent vapors will clear up the chest. Don’t  hold your breath while you swallow.
  • To clear a stuffy nose mix 1/4 teaspoon table salt in a cup of boiled and cooled water. With a dropper, place 2 or 3 drops in each nostril half an hour before meals and at bedtime.

Chest pain (Pasli chalna)

  • Boil 1 teaspoon ajwain (omum) powder in a glass of water till it becomes one fourth. Take this decoction piping hot before retiring to bed. This remedy can be taken twice daily in the dosage level 2 teaspoon.

Cholesterol (High)

  • Drink tea made up of 1teaspoon cinnamon and a quarter teaspoon of trikatu. Boil it for 10 min in a cup of water; add 1teaspoon honey in it and take it twice daily.
  • Drink one cup of hot water (add 1teaspoon honey) as a first thing in the morning.

Chronic fever

  • Make paste of seven tulsi (holy basil) leaves, four kali tulsi (holy basil) leaves and one pepper corn with 60 ml water. Add 10 grams mishri in this paste. This is to be taken on an empty stomach early in the morning.

Cirrhosis of liver

  • Take onion slices twice daily .
  • Take thin buttermilk with a pinch of asafoetida, black pepper and salt after lunch.
  • Take either amla (indian gooseberry) juice (25 ml) or dried amla powder (1teaspoon) thrice daily.
  • Add juice of half lemon in half glass of water with salt and take this mixture thrice daily.
  • Take 15-20 properly riped jamun fruit daily on an empty stomach.


  • Take aloe vera gel 1teaspoon twice daily.

Common cold

  • Mix barley waterhoney and lemon juice and take it.
  • Cinnamon can be added to foods or drinks to to treat common cold.
  • Fresh garlic clove taken daily is an effective remedy for common colds and flu.
  • Take lemon honey tea early in the morning.
  • Mustard poultice can be used on the chest to relieve the symptoms.
  • Take a bowl of piping hot chicken or vegetable soup.
  • Boil  a cup of  milk and add some honey (one tablespoon) to it. Drink this milk when it is still warm, before retiring to bed.
  • Mix honey (two teaspoon), lemon juice (one teaspoon) and warm water (one cup). Use this water for gargle twice daily.
  • Clean the onions, and cut them into chunks. Put these pieces in saucepan and cover them with water. Now boil this water in low flames until the onions are soft. Sieve it and add equal amounts of honey. Take this before retiring to bed.
  • Take equal amounts of cardamom, ginger powder, black pepper and cinnamon (say 1 teaspoon each). Add the total amount in sugar (4 teaspoons). Grind the mixture to make a fine powder. Take half a teaspoon  twice a day, with honey or warm water after meals.
  • Add 1/2″ ginger, 6 tulsi leaves, 1 bay leaf, 3 peppercorns, and 1 clove to 1/2 liter water with sugar (to taste). Boil for 15 minutes. Strain and drink hot, as and when required.
  • Take 1/2 to 1 inch of ginger and wash thoroughly. Scrape the skin and chop into 3 to 4 pieces. Add a tablespoon of water. Churn thoroughly in a mixer and strain out the juice in a gauzy cloth. Discard the pulp. Add a teaspoon of honey, a pinch of turmeric, stir well. Drink half in the morning and half in the evening.
  • Eat one or two cloves a day of raw or lightly sautéed garlic, all at once or in small doses.
  • Mix 20-25 grams sliced fresh ginger, 1 broken up cinnamon stick, 1 teaspoon coriander seeds, 2 cloves, 1slice of lime, 1/liter water. Put on low flames for 15 minutes, strain. Drink a hot cupful at 2 hours interval.
  • Grind about half an inch of fresh ginger root into a paste and put in a mug. Add boiling water and “steep” for several minutes. Strain the clear liquid into another mug, sweeten, and sip. Take it  in the morning and evening.
  • Mix half teaspoon fennel seed powder and 1teaspoon sugar. Take this mixture twice or thrice daily.
  • For flu make tea from 1teaspoon basil (tulsi) leaves in a cup of water. Boil for two minutes and drink it.

Cold in children

  • Boil half teaspoon ajwain (omum) seed powder in half cup of water, till it becomes half and sieve it. Take this decoction piping hot before retiring to bed. This remedy can be taken twice daily in the dosage level of 2 teaspoon.
  • Nose drops can also be prepared at home, in the following way: To 4 ounces (120 ml) of water, add ¼ teaspoon salt, mix the solution, boil it and let it cool. You can put 2-3 drops of this solution into each nostril.


  • Make an eye wash by soaking  1teaspoon coriander seeds in a cup of water overnight. Now boil this water at least for 15 minutes. Strain thoroughly and cool before using the water on your closed eyes. Water should not be too hot.
  • Apply a cotton ball (dipped in goat’s milk) on your eyes.


  • Take 10-12 black currants munakkas (properly washed and de seeded)  boil them in milk. Eat them followed by intake of milk before retiring to bed.
  • Take 1 teaspoon of triphala (amla, harad and baheda) powder in lukewarm milk or water before retiring to bed.
  • Soak Isabgol husk in water for 6 hours. Add equal amount of mishri and take the mixture with water before retiring to bed. It can be taken without water as well.
  • Soak 5-10 gm of Isabgol husk in warm milk (approx. 200 ml) until it swells up and forms a thick paste. Add sugar to this paste and take this followed by intake of warm milk. This remedy is to be taken in the evenings.
  • Castor oil (1-5 teaspoon according to the requirement) with 1 cup warm water/milk is to be taken before retiring to bed.
  • Take honey along with different foods and drinks.
  • Take mulethi (licorice) tea before meals.
  • Apple, strawberries and prunes are fiber rich fruits and can be effective in the treatment of constipation.
  • Make a tea by adding the psyllium or flaxseed (one teaspoon) to boiling water (one cup) and steeping for ten minutes. Take this tea.
  • Mix lemon juice (one teaspoon), olive oil (one teaspoon) and honey (one teaspoon) in a glass of warm water. Take this drink at morning daily.
  • After waking up, drink about one liter of warm water and walk around for a few minutes.
  • One or two teaspoons of aloe vera gel can be taken twice a day.
  • Mix one 1-2 teaspoon ghee in a cup of warm milk and take this before retiring to bed.
  • Prepare ginger tea and add 2 teaspoon castor oil in it and have it.


  • Mix roasted  alum salt (phitkari) 10 gm and desi khand or sugar (100gm) and powder them. Divide this powder in 14 equal proportions. Take one portion with warm milk before retiring to bed.
  • For wet cough take one portion of the above mentioned powder with warm water before retiring to bed.
  • Grind black peppers to a very fine powder consistency. Now take jaggery four times of black peppers weight. Mix these two ingredients and make small balls (approx. half gram weight) of this mixture. Take 3-4 tablets daily.
  • De seed the munakkas and put black pepper powder inside them. Now chew these munakkas.
  • Mix ginger juice and honey in equal proportions and warm this mixture. Take this mixture frequently.
  • To ease out the expulsion of mucus take the bark of  baheda or chopped ginger and keep it in mouth.
  • Mix the dried powder of amla (indian gooseberry) and mulethi (licorice) . Take this powder 1 teaspoon twice daily on empty stomach. It can be helpful in easing out the accumulated mucus.
  • Pine oil, in a vaporizer will ease coughing.
  • Add slightly crushed mulethi (licorice) roots in herbal tea and take it.
  • Properly roast the onions and prepare its poultice. Apply this poultice to the chest.
  • Add mustard powder in little water and apply this poultice to the chest area.
  • Honey and lemon is an effective remedy of cough.
  • Take peppermint tea.
  • Add four garlic cloves and a small piece of ginger root in a cup of water. Boil this water for 20 minutes. Allow it to cool and strain it. Add honey and take in the dosage of one tablespoon.
  • Take equal amounts of cardamom, ginger powder, black pepper and cinnamon (say 1 teaspoon each). Add the total amount in sugar (4 teaspoons). Grind the mixture to make a fine powder. Take half a teaspoon  twice a day, with honey or warm water after meals.
  • Take some thyme tea. Put one to two teaspoon dried thyme leaves in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. Take this tea thrice daily.
  • Soak a slice of onion in enough honey to cover it properly overnight. Next day discard the slice of onion and dilute honey with lime juice. Take this mixture one tablespoon as and when required.
  • Take a cup of hot milk with a pinch of turmeric and some sugar.

Cuts and wounds

  • Mix cod-liver oil and honey in equal proportions and apply this to the affected area.
  • Apply both vitamin E oil and zinc oxide to the wounds.
  • Apply some black pepper on wounds. Not only does the bleeding stop quickly, the wound heals cleanly with little scarring.


  • Take cranberry juice daily.
  • Eat yogurt.
