PREMATURE EJACULATION – INTRODUCTION

It is defined as ejaculation either before penetration or before the partner achieves orgasm. It is often associated with high levels of anxiety which appears to trigger the condition.

This is the commonest sexual problem among men. About 35-40% of individuals with sexual problems, complain of early ejaculation at some stage of their sexual life.

What is Premature ejaculation (PME) ?

  • In this condition the person ejaculates too early during sexual intercourse leaving him as well as his partner unsatisfied.
  • Once in a while any one can have early ejaculation and that doesn’t mean he is suffering from PME. It is considered to be a disorder (for one to seek help) only when the problem is persistent and occurs during most of the sexual interactions.
  • The person may ejaculate:
    • immediately with little foreplay
    • before or during penetration
    • a short while after penetration
  • A person may have this problem of premature ejaculation since the beginning of sexual life (life long type) or he may develop the problem after having a considerable period of absolutely perfect sexual life (acquired type).
  • Interestingly, one can have severe and distressing form of premature ejaculation with one partner and at the same time, he can have satisfactory sexual relations with another partner.
