SUBACUTE THYROIDITIS – MANAGEMENT
Treatment is symptomatic as the disease is self-limited.
- Aspirin is the drug of choice to relieve pain and inflammation. Other drugs like non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs and corticosteroids (in severe cases) may also be used.
- Symptoms of hyperthyroidism are treated with Propranolol.
- Transient hypothyroidism, if symptomatic, is treated with thyroxine.
