GRAVE’S DISEASE – Risk factors

  • Females are eight times more at risk of developing Grave’s disease.
  • Usually occurs between age group of 20-40 years.
  • More common during puberty, pregnancy.
  • Tends to run in family.
  • In Caucasians Grave’s disease has shown an association with HLA-B8, DR3 and DR2.
  • Graves disease may be associated with other autoimmune disorders like pernicious anemia, myasthenia gravis, diabetes mellitus etc.
