Choking may result due to improperly chewed and swallowed food. Choking may occur in children as they may put objects in their mouth.
As a result of choking, the victim may have difficulty in breathing and speaking.
- Bend the victim forward so that the position of head is lower than the chest and encourage the victim to cough.
- Give sharp blows with your palm between the shoulder-blades.
- If none of the above works, then grasp the victim from the back, interlock your hands and place them just below the victims rib cage, pull sharply inwards and upwards. This compresses the chest and may expel the obstruction.
